Kips Bay Palm Beach 2020 Featured in House Beautiful

House Beautiful included our Kips Bay room in their roundup "There Are So Many Genius Tricks In This Year's Kips Bay Show House Palm Beach." Published February 24, 2020 by Hadley Keller.

The trick they called out: Don't be afraid of furniture in a bathroom.

Our space was a his-and-hers bathroom + walk-in closet. With architect Tom Kirchhoff, we reworked the flow so the two rooms felt like one suite, not two small rooms stuck together.

Then I treated the bathroom like a room, not just tile.

I carried the same fabric from the closet into the bathroom, and wrapped the entire bathroom and closet head-to-toe in pleated draperies, wallcoverings, and bold prints.

The vintage chaise — reupholstered in Josef Frank for Schumacher — adds softness against the tile. That was the moment people remembered. A chaise in a bathroom feels unexpected, but it makes the bathroom livable. Somewhere to sit, talk, put on shoes.

That mix of bold prints is why the clients for Cypress Grove found me at this show house. They were at Kips Bay Palm Beach 2020, fell in love with this bathroom and closet, and later hired me for their Boca Raton home.

My rule for bathrooms: if you have space for furniture, use it. Bathrooms don't have to be hard surfaces only.
