Our Kips Bay room is in House Beautiful!

House Beautiful Digital featured The Parlour in February 2024 as part of the 7th annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach — and I love the way they saw this room.

While Veranda focused on the color story and Luxe focused on the craftsmanship, House Beautiful got right to what this room is actually for: gathering.

The Parlour is the hallway lounge/bar that leads to the second-floor primary suite at 230 Miramar Way in SoSo, West Palm Beach. It has three sets of French doors that open directly to a patio. In Palm Beach, you live inside-outside, and I wanted this room to feel like the spot where everyone ends up with a drink before dinner.

As Palm Beach Daily News wrote about the house, with interiors created by more than two-dozen firms, the show house benefits the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County and Kips Bay in NYC. Since 1973, Kips Bay has raised more than $29 million for after-school programs. That’s why we all do it.

For entertaining, the layout does all the work.

The Forte bar embellished with turquoise-veined quartzite is right when you walk in — easy to serve from.

The built-in corner banquette with that jumbo 2-inch coral velvet welt is the anchor — it seats a group without feeling like a formal living room. And those mushroom-shaped stools with beetle embroidery? They pull up extra, so you can fit more people than you think.

I designed it for myself, not an imaginary client. As I told Veranda, "I'm the imaginary person. I'm so used to working with clients — because I love color and pattern, I designed the space to suit myself."

So this is "me plus" — pinkish lavender, turquoise, and coral in Sanderson / Harlequin fabric wall coverings, a custom high-low rug by Rug & Kilim that can handle traffic, and everything durable enough for a real party.

The three sets of French doors are the secret. You can be inside at the bar and still be part of the patio gathering outside. For a hallway, it stops you. It makes you want to stay.
