Kips Bay Palm Beach Showhouse Featured in Luxe Interiors 2024

Luxe Interiors featured our Kips Bay Palm Beach room!

Our hallway lounge The Parlour is in Luxe Interiors Digital January 2024 as part of the 7th annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach at 230 Miramar Way. The same room was also in Veranda and House Beautiful — but Luxe caught some of my favorite craftsmanship details.

If you followed along on Instagram while I was installing, you know this room was a labor of love. It’s the lounge/bar that leads to the second-floor primary suite, with three sets of French doors that open to the patio. For Palm Beach, that indoor-outdoor connection is everything.

I went full "me plus" for this room.

In our historic homes in Pittsburgh, I’m editing — preserving 1903 woodwork, layering quiet patterns. In Maine, I’m soft and monochromatic. Here, there were no guardrails. So I let myself do maximalism at full volume.

Luxe loved the wallcoverings — Sanderson and Harlequin fabrics in that pinkish lavender, turquoise, and coral palette. They’re not wallpaper, they’re fabric wallcoverings, so they have this softness and depth you don’t get with paper. The whole room is wrapped in them, which makes it feel like a jewel box.

A few of the details I’m still thinking about:

The Forte bar. We embellished it with turquoise-veined quartzite — the veining picks up the wallpaper and it’s so durable for a real bar. It’s the anchor of the room.

That coral welt. The built-in corner banquette has a jumbo 2-inch coral velvet welt at the bottom. It sounds small, but it’s what makes the banquette read as custom. As I told the Kips Bay team, "It makes for extra layering and it delineates the shape."

The custom rug. Rug & Kilim made us a custom high-low rug for this room — Luxe noted it in their feature. The texture underfoot keeps all that pattern from feeling too flat.

And the little whimsical moments — mushroom-shaped stools with beetle-embroidered covers in front of the sofa. Because if you’re going to do a show house, you should have fun.

What I love most about Kips Bay is the cause — since 1973, the Show House has raised more than $29 million for after-school programs for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County and New York. Designing a fun, colorful lounge feels even better when it supports that mission.
